Pen rest peace crane pops up just about every where Ronnie ... he is such a busy body, always wanting to be a part of the action, keen to poke his beak in. So I indulge him just a little.

Just recently I taught two workshops on Purely Pencils II. One in Sydney for the Australian Society of Calligraphers and the Canberra Calligraphy Society. Here is a selection of photos from both of those workshops: My in-class demonstration. My morning walk It is always a pleasure to teach for the Australian Society of Calligraphers as well as visit Sydney my hometown on 19 years. The venue Primrose Park sits in tranquil setting down on the harbour edge at Cremorne. The following exercise is called "From Nature to Paper" Using watercolour pencils to choose, as well as mix and match, the colour depicted in the flowers. As the class skill level varied I chose Charles Rennie Mackintosh letterforms to use depicting the initial letter of the name of the flower. The class enjoyed this project tremendously. Sadly I did not have my camera for
From Cape Town I moved onward to Bloemfontein in the Free State where I met another wonderful group of talented calligraphers. Everyone could speak English of course but their first language was Afrikaans. I enjoyed listening to the classroom banter even though I had no understanding whatsoever of what they were saying. I am enjoying trialing SA cuisine in particular melktert and bobotie. Many thanks go to my host family Willemien, Franna, Dian & Mika Kruger for their hospitality and warm welcome. The subject for our three day workshop was "watercolour cut-back technique using Trajan letters". Please enjoy these wonderful outcomes.
I have boldly taken steps to enter these two works into The Glover Prize here in Tasmania. Oh how brazen I am. I'll report back after 7th February 2020 when I'll know if I have been shortlisted. Fingers crossed everyone! Silent Landscape 52cm x 95cm LISTEN 2020 52cm x 75cm
