"The Johannesburg Group" Catherine, Marj, Jill, Antonette, Pearl, Barbara, Louise, Dianne & Jeff And per se and! Meet Tiny. What a woman! Here is a wonderful array of work from the Retro Deco three-day course in Johannesburg. Thank you to all my diligent participants who worked ever so hard to achieve these works. A huge thank you to Pearl de Chalain for being the the mover & shaker for the JB group. Also my thanks to Pearl & Paul for their generous hospitality.
Just recently I taught two workshops on Purely Pencils II. One in Sydney for the Australian Society of Calligraphers and the Canberra Calligraphy Society. Here is a selection of photos from both of those workshops: My in-class demonstration. My morning walk It is always a pleasure to teach for the Australian Society of Calligraphers as well as visit Sydney my hometown on 19 years. The venue Primrose Park sits in tranquil setting down on the harbour edge at Cremorne. The following exercise is called "From Nature to Paper" Using watercolour pencils to choose, as well as mix and match, the colour depicted in the flowers. As the class skill level varied I chose Charles Rennie Mackintosh letterforms to use depicting the initial letter of the name of the flower. The class enjoyed this project tremendously. And so it transpires we have found a beautiful yet quirky little home to start our new Canberra chapter. The home once owned and built by a very climate conscientious pharmacist is now ours to enjoy and care for. Tanks for water, tanks for grey-water, solar panels, double-glazed windows, trombe walls and clerestory windows all thrown into the mix to help our new solar passive home along. There are two good sized bedrooms and a remarkable room perfect for a calligrapher with an artistic bent. Just ready to walk in and get started. Built c. 2005 the house is almost hidden from external view. I like that. Nestled at the end of a very quiet cul-de-sac it is a little off the road in Lyons, a central suburb in the ACT giving us the opportunity to travel in all directions to be anywhere we wish to be within minutes. The greatest joy of all and one of my essentials on the "must be" list is that it is very short walk to the Woden shopping & health precinct. For me the hardest d
Sally, basically you lay the gold - in this case I have used Ormoline as a size and real 23ct gold leaf. The Ormoline is excellent because it is not as tacky as some sizes are and it takes the tooling really well.
I have used a pointed stylus to indent the pattern ... about the point of a tapestry needle which has a blunt point. I use a variety of designs to tool. It is very relaxing to spend the time creating the patterns.
There you have it!
